X Money terms changelog
Every change to X Money's cash back, APY, fees and eligibility that we could verify, newest first, with sources for each entry.
Dates are when a change was announced, took effect, or was first observed in an archived copy of an official page. Where only a window is known (between two Wayback Machine snapshots), date_precision is 'window' and 'date' is the end of the window (first observation). Last checked 2026-10-18. - Cash back worse for you verified (date window only)
3% becomes 'up to 3%'; non-subscribers drop to 1% unless they direct deposit $1,000+
Cashback Rewards Terms and FAQ add a 'Cashback Rates' section: paid-plan and legacy Premium/Premium+ subscribers earn 'up to 3%'; all other users earn 1%, boosted to up to 3% only with $1,000+ of Qualifying Deposits (PPD payroll-type ACH or X Creator payouts) in a trailing 34 days. The earlier FAQ said simply: 'You'll earn 3% cashback on eligible purchases.' Exact date not verified: absent from the 2026-09-22 archived terms and the 2026-09-04 archived FAQ; present in the 2026-10-17 archived FAQ.
- Fees worse for you verified (date window only)
ATM fee reimbursement capped for non-subscribers; metal card now $25
The FAQ previously said 'We will reimburse all ATM fees, including international ATM withdrawals' and 'Any fees charged are fully reimbursed'. It now says only paid-plan / legacy Premium subscribers get unlimited ATM operator fee reimbursement; all other users are reimbursed up to $4 per transaction for up to 2 transactions per month. A $25 metal card fee (waived for paid plans) and a $20 wire fee for users without a qualifying plan also appear.
- APY neutral
Rate sheet reissued for 'The X Subscription' tiers; APY numbers unchanged
The official rate sheet now shows an effective date of 10/12/2026 and is reorganized around The X Subscription (Free or Plus: 4.00% standard / 6.00% boosted; Premium, Super, Ultra: 6.00%) plus legacy X Premium tiers. The APY figures themselves (4.00% / 6.00%) match the 07/27/2026 rate sheet. Note Plus subscribers on The X Subscription get the 4% standard rate, not 6%.
- APY worse for you
New York accounts drop to 0.00% APY
For New York residents who were earning interest, APY and interest rate became 0.00% effective October 1, 2026. The 90-day window for the NY-only $300 direct deposit bonus ($3,000 of qualifying deposits) starts on that date.
- Exclusions worse for you
3% exclusion list widened: utilities, Costco-type wholesale clubs, insurance, colleges, jewelry, no-MCC
Six additions to the Excluded MCCs table: 4900 Utilities; 5300 Wholesale Clubs; 5944 Jewelry Stores, Watches, Clocks and Silverware; 6300 Insurance Underwriting, Premiums; 8220 Colleges, Universities; and any transaction with no MCC. Confirmed by diffing archived official terms (2026-09-02 vs 2026-09-22 07:15 UTC). First public report on USCardForum at 23:59 UTC Sep 21 (6:59 PM CT Sep 21).
- APY worse for you verified (date window only)
New York residents cut off from APY; $300 NY direct deposit bonus introduced
FAQ adds 'APY is not currently available to residents of New York' and a NY-only $300 bonus for $3,000 of qualifying deposits in 90 days; existing NY accounts are told interest will end (effective Oct 1, 2026). Same window: the FAQ's availability line changes from 'select U.S. users' to 'rolling out to U.S. residents with an X Premium or Premium+ subscription', and the Sweep Program same-day cutoff moves from 12:00 PM to 9:00 AM EST.
- Fees better for you verified (date window only)
$25 two-day check delivery fee dropped from FAQ fee list
The FAQ fee list previously included 'Check issuance: $0 for standard delivery, $25 for two day delivery'. That line was removed.
- Exclusions worse for you partial (date unverified)
Official exclusion table already includes digital games, arcades, postal, brokerage and other MCCs
The earliest readable archived copy of the official terms (2026-08-21) lists 22 excluded MCCs, including 5816 Digital Goods - Games, 6532 Payment Transaction: Customer Financial Institution, 7994 Video Game Arcades and 9402 Postal Services - Government Only. These weren't in Doctor of Credit's March 2026 beta list (which DoC later labeled 9/22 'new additions'). We can't verify when they were added between March and August. Earlier archives (July 28 and 31) did not capture readable text.
- Account policy worse for you verified (date window only)
Suspension for X Money Acceptable Use violations now ends Money access
The FAQ originally said only Child Safety or Violent and Hateful Entities suspensions cost you Money access (funds mailed by check). X Money Acceptable Use Policy violations were added to that list.
